Policy & Practice: A Development Education Review has been the Centre for Global Education's flagship publication since its launch in 2005. It is the only development education journal published on the island of Ireland and it has a strong readership in Europe, North America, The Philippines, India and Australia, amongst other corners of the world. The journal aims to celebrate and promote good practice in global education and to inform the work of practicioners in the forma and non-formal education sectors. It features in-depth contributions on aspects of global education such as methodologies, monitoring and evaluation, resources and training, enhancing organisational capacity, and strategic interventions in education and sectoral practice.

Introduction

Development education (DE) has always operated on the interface between the local and the global.  The primary beneficiaries of DE practice are largely located in local education sectors, formal and informal, with the content of education programmes mostly focusing on global issues.  However, recent discourse in development education has signalled a growing concern in the sector that practitioners should be questioning the development process at home as well as interrogating social justice and equality issues overseas.  Mags Liddy, for instance, has suggested that:
